Rage Against the Clock

The AI press record

What this is

A running record of how artificial intelligence is covered in the press. Every story that comes through the source feeds is logged with its outlet, its date, and a label describing whether the coverage reads positive, negative, neutral, or mixed toward its subject — published alongside the reasoning that produced it.

The point is the aggregate. Any single story is just a story. 652 of them, sorted by outlet and topic and tracked over time, is a picture of what the press is actually saying, which is harder to get from reading the press.

What this is not

It is not a position on AI. This site does not argue that AI is good or bad, overhyped or underrated. Rage Against the Clock does not endorse or oppose the stories it tracks. Sentiment labels describe the tone of the coverage toward its subject, not whether the reporting is accurate or whether we agree with it.

It is not a fact-check. The labels read tone, not accuracy. A story recorded as positive coverage may still be wrong, and one recorded as negative may be exactly right.

It is not original reporting. Every headline and summary here belongs to the publication that produced it, and every story links back to the original. If something here interests you, the right move is to click through and read it where it was published.

Why it is automated

A human editor tracking press sentiment builds a record of their own reading habits. An automated pipeline against a published source list and a published method builds a record you can audit — and argue with, which is the useful part. The method page documents how the pipeline works, including where it is weak. The sources page shows which feeds are currently working and which have gone quiet.

Using the data

The full archive is available as a JSON file, refreshed every build, under CC BY 4.0. It carries each story's label, score, confidence, reasoning, tags, and a link to the original. Headlines and summaries remain the property of their publishers.

There is also an RSS feed of the latest tracked coverage, labels included.
